PA Wilds 2010 Impact Report

The Pennsylvania Wilds Initiative is a groundbreaking effort by many different partners. Read about what has been accomplished in the first years of the Initiative and the difference it is making to residents and communities in rural Pennsylvania by downloading our 2010 Update on the PA Wilds Initiative

PA Wilds Design Guide for Community Character Stewardship
The Pennsylvania Wilds is known for its strong sense of place. Our region’s rural and historic character are part of what makes us attractive to visitors and residents, so it is important for us to be good stewards of these characteristics. The PA Wilds Design Guide was created with this in mind. The Design Guide is a voluntary planning document that highlights how communities in the Pennsylvania Wilds can protect or enhance their rural character as they grow – whether that growth is due to tourism, resource extraction or other industries. This is a great resource for developers, planners, architects, business or property owners, revitalization partners and community leaders. Click here to order a free copy of the Design Guide on CD.

Marcellus Shale Resource Guide for Municipalities
Since it was created in 2006, the Pennsylvania Wilds Planning Team has worked to develop a comprehensive planning study for the 12 ½-county PA Wilds region looking at recreation, land development, infrastructure, and regional initiatives for community development. Since then Marcellus Shale development has emerged, bringing with it new threats and opportunities. The Planning Team has developed a resource guide to help municipal officials adapt to this unparalleled development.

PA Wilds Artisan Development Initiative Membership Guidelines
The PA Wilds Artisan Development Initiative aims to raise the visibility and profitability of the region’s artisans and arts-related businesses by branding high-quality, locally-made artisan products with the “Proudly Made in the Pennsylvania Wilds” brand so these products can command a higher price; and helping get more of these items to market by establishing an Artisan Trail and an online presence for the program so artisans can more easily market their products. Interested in joining the program? Check out the Artisan Initiative Membership Guidelines.

PA Wilds Logo Use Request Forms
The PA Wilds logo is part of an established brand that is marketed around the globe. Local businesses, event coordinators, non-profits, and community and outdoor groups who believe they could benefit from being associated with the PA Wilds brand are encouraged to apply to use the logo on their event banners, brochures, websites, signs and other materials. Logo use is free when it is used in a secondary way (i.e. as a supporting graphic on brochures, event banners, etc). The logo is trademarked, but the two-part application for use is easy and fast. Once approved, we’ll send you the digital graphic files you need. Click here for Part 1 and Part 2 of the application.

Promote Your Trail on www.ExplorePAtrails.com
The Pennsylvania Wilds has hundreds of miles of trails. Hiking, biking, equestrian, motorized, water trails – we’ve got them all. Every one of these trails brings with it economic opportunities for local communities nearby, and recreational opportunities for visitors and residents. But first you need to get folks to your trail. And www.ExplorePAtrails.com is a great way to do that. The site is free and “powered by you,” which means any one of us can take the initiative to promote trails in our area by uploading photos and trail information. Be sure to check it out!
