Community Funding in the PA Wilds

o you have an idea for an event, a resource or an organization that will enhance the character of your community, draw tourists to the area, provide a great recreational resource, or otherwise make the Pennsylvania Wilds a better place to live and visit.

Now what?

Volunteers and local donors can help make a lot of improvements, but many projects require more funding. This page is designed as a clearinghouse for information about how and where to seek grants.

Whereto look for funding

The Resources and Tutorials page is for community organizers who are new to grant writing. It can be an intimidating process, which is unfortunate, particularly for small communities and organizations that do not have a full-time, professional fund-raising staff. This page aims to make sense of the process and give you the confidence you need to compete for grants at any level.     More about Resources and Tutorials

Where to look for funding is a resource for anyone seeking money for a community project in the PA Wilds. It includes information about grants at all levels, brief descriptions, links to applications, deadlines and eligibility requirements. The list pays special attention to agencies and organizations interested in funding tourism, heritage, community and environmental projects. The list of grants compiled here is not exhaustive, nor can it be. Foundations and programs come and go. But this is a great place to start, and will be updated regularly. Pay special attention to the PDF document that lists organizations dedicated to funding projects in your county.     More information on where to look for funding

Finally, keep in mind that this website is a two-way street. If your organization has found a great new source of funding, we would love to hear about it. If you struggled for years to land a federal grant and finally nailed it, we’d love to hear how. Contact community outreach specialist Sam MacDonald at smacdonald@pawilds.com.
